There are over 130 CASA volunteers who served 497 children in Jackson County in 2007

There are over 300 children under court protection still waiting for CASA's

CASA volunteers are required to pass a background check and complete 40-hours of training. Volunteers average about 10 hours of service per month. An additional 12 hours per year of on-going training is also expected. We ask that volunteers dedicate themselves to a case until it is closed. The average case lasts approximately 2 years.

The CASA program provides excellent ongoing training and support for every volunteer. Each volunteer is assigned a Volunteer Coordinator who is a support for them throughout the life of the case. Additionally, on-going training opportunities are provided each month allowing volunteers to network and learn from professionals in the field of child welfare work.

Our volunteer advocates are a very diverse group. They come from different places, have a variety of education and professional experiences and are currently between the ages of 21 and 90. Some have experience working with children and families and some have grown up in the foster care system. Others are ordinary people who have known the stability of a loving family. All are actively concerned about the well-being of children.

If you are interested in more information about the CASA program and volunteer opportunities please contact Lené Garrett at lgarrett@jacksoncountycasa.org or phone our office 541-734-2272. We will send you an information packet along with an invitation to attend an orientation class.

If you would like to volunteer as a Guild member, contact Sally Wise at swise@jacksoncountycasa.org or phone her at 734-2272 to find out about other volunteer opportunities.
And the figures...
Trained CASA volunteers: 129
Volunteers in training: 12
Children served by CASA in 2007: 497*
Wards of the court still without a CASA: est. 350*

* Since we do not have enough volunteers to serve all of the eligible children, we must triage the cases, giving top priority to the most serious cases of abuse and neglect. Click Here to Volunteer!

Jackson County CASA strives to:
(a) to promote the best interest of abused, neglected, and vulnerable children who are wards of the court, using trained, committed volunteers advocating for each child's
timely return to a safe, nurturing, and permanent home.

(b) to promote community responsibility for reduction of child abuse and neglect.

All children will thrive...
in caring, healthy families-
families able to provide consistent support and nurturance within communities responsive to the needs and conditions of all their citizens.
