About Us
CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of Jackson County is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) volunteer organization that recruits, trains and supports volunteers, every day citizens, as appointed members of the court. The social welfare system is overburdened, which can result in abused and neglected children slipping through the cracks. CASA volunteers can help change that. As stated in Oregon State Statute 419B.170, a CASA volunteer shall be appointed by a juvenile court judge to each dependent ward of the court. CASA volunteers typically handle just one case at a time—and commit to staying on that case until the child is placed in a safe, permanent home. Other parties to the case will come and go but CASA volunteers provide the one constant in a child’s life that is needed to help them thrive. There are currently an estimated 370 children awaiting a CASA in Jackson County. If you would like to make a difference in a child’s life click on How to Volunteer

And the figures...
Trained CASA volunteers: 129
Volunteers in training: 12
Children served by CASA in 2007: 497*
Wards of the court still without a CASA: est. 350*

* Since we do not have enough volunteers to serve all of the eligible children, we must triage the cases, giving top priority to the most serious cases of abuse and neglect. Click Here to Volunteer!

Jackson County CASA strives to:
(a) to promote the best interest of abused, neglected, and vulnerable children who are wards of the court, using trained, committed volunteers advocating for each child's
timely return to a safe, nurturing, and permanent home.

(b) to promote community responsibility for reduction of child abuse and neglect.

All children will thrive...
in caring, healthy families-
families able to provide consistent support and nurturance within communities responsive to the needs and conditions of all their citizens.
